The Piechy wines have been in the Metro Cash and Carry stores for over two weeks now and the response has been very positive. The wines are selling well, in particular the Shiraz, which is everyones favourite. A great big Barossa red! I predict (but, then again, I would, wouldn't I?) that the cartons will become collectors items. Buy one and get me to sign it! I'd be happy too. I'd also be more than happy to sign any or all three of the wine labels.
Metro C+C, Wine and Spirits, Germany has never, to my knowledge, put so much time, effort and money into producing a wine carton (has anyone?) and it shows. It took almost a year from the first idea, doing the watercolour mock ups, finishing the nine paintings and then completing the layout and printing. A real achievement, and an excellent example of fresh, faux naive paintings meeting mass produced printing and lay out. Piechy's spirit, his enthusiasm, charm and cheekiness, leaps off every part of the carton. I was given complete artistic freedom for the 'Day in Sydney with Piechy' series. The one small proviso was that the paintings for the three labels had the appropriate colour scheme ie red and dark colours for the red wine etc. The series is my bittersweet ode to the distant epoch of Sydney in the late 80's -early 90's. As 'Brand of the Year' the wine is being promoted all year so you have time to buy. If you don't have a Metro card get a friend who does to buy the wine for you. Whatever you do in 2012 try the Piechy wine. You will make a little dog from Australia very happy.
